William D. Hulme

William D. Hulme B. Arch., M. Arch., MRAIC
Born in Montreal, Bill had an early affinity to drawing and painting, winning First Prize at the Notre Dame de Grace Arts and Letters Festival in Grade 2 at the age of 8. He attended Lower Canada College where he studied art under Gino Lorcini, a student of renown artist and art educator Dr. Arthur Lismer, completing a McGill School Certificate, including courses in art. He went on to study Architecture at McGill University and the University of California at Berkeley. At McGill, he studied Elements of Design and Freehand Drawing under Gordon Webber and Gentile Tondino as well as plein air Sketching School led by Tondino and Stuart Wilson (all three of whom were also students of Lismer).
Inspired by the Québec landscape and vernacular architecture as well as the Algonquin Highlands, Bill usually paints plein air in acrylic, oil and gouache. He is currently a member of the Ottawa-based Plein Air Ensemble and the Ottawa Art Association, and regularly exhibits at the Ottawa Little Theatre. Recently, he relocated to Eganville, Ontario.
