Margaret Ferraro, MPAC, PSEC

My home/studio is located in the Ottawa Valley in eastern Ontario, close to downtown Ottawa. For 20 years in this location, I have created and taught courses in pastel, drawing, figure drawing and paint. Soon to be an empty-nester, I am looking forward to teaching in many different areas of the world and to paint as often as I can. Stay tuned by checking out my website (www.ferraro-art.com) or my blog (margaretferraro.blogspot.com), where I often list my art holidays.

Of all the creative things I do, I feel most at home with a stick of pastel in my hand. The ease and spontaneity allow for total creative choices — no conceptualizing a colour choice, then mixing. The visual stimulation of the pastel box gets me every time, allowing for quick responsive colour use. I often paint first in pastel for a truer reflection of who I am as a colourist, and allow this to inform my colour choices in my other mediums — acrylic and oil.

RECENT NEWS: I am honoured to have recently won another major award — this time for my pastel painting "El Vestido Rojo." The award was presented at the 16th pastel exhibition of the Pastel Society of Eastern Canada's International juried exhibition, Les Pastellistes. This art exhibit of pastel work only, is held yearly at Tudor Hall, an historic dance hall, housed in Ogilvy's department store in downtown Montreal. The show attracts artists from Canada, the U.S., France and other countries.
