This is a varnished watercolor- this means that it can be framed and displayed without glass like an acrylic or oil painting.  It's a 14" X 14" watercolor on paper glued to a 1 inch cradled wood panel. It has been professionally framed in a nice black floating frame that allows the entire surface of the painting to be seen.

I had been looking at the photograph of that scene since I had taken it in April 2010 and really wanted to paint it - it really brings me back to Venice with its busy Grand Canal, its gorgeous colors.The painting will be part of the art show Memories  at the Foyer Gallery at the Nepean Sportsplex in Ottawa from Oct 26 2011 until  Novembe 6th.
