The Protector
This painting is my third of Venetian mascaroni or carved stone heads over archways of palazzi. Most of these Venetian mascaroni are about three or four hundred years old! I find them fascinating!
This one reminds me of a lion! I called it The Protector in part because of the word "custodiat", that appears carved in the archway....May ( the Lord or Master of the house) guard...... It is an original watercolour painted from my own reference photo. It's approximately 19" X 16" and matted and framed under glass to 20" X 24" in a simple silver metal frame.
