Susan Clement-Beveridge

Susan Clément-Beveridge is an emerging Canadian visual artist, born & lived in Ottawa most of her life, who started painting, drawing and illustrating over the last decade. Since 2010, she usually works from photographs she has taken from the Ottawa and upper valley areas, painting with her preferred medium, acrylic on canvas. Susan loves to experiment with various techniques and effects in her mixed media art by using various techniques and tools creating textures and applying pen & ink. In 2010, her first inspirations for acrylic started with painting portraits of people, animals and musicians, which has now evolved into contemporary & mixed media pieces, with at times, hints of realism, while exploring the world of abstract painting. Her style encompasses on a bold, distinct and colourful palette range, showing depth and expression.

Susan is predominately a self-taught artist and has always had strong ties to the arts whether being in fine arts, theatre or music. Some of her influences come from artists such as; Gwendolyn Best, Bhat Boy & Jay Anderson, found in her private collection of pieces. Her love of the arts has always been a deeply passionate part of her life, transpiring in many forms. In her earlier days, she acquired her study of art and inspiration from her fine arts instructor, Karl Schutt, while also working as a coop student using pen & ink and silk screening at the National Postal Museum. In 1985, she completed a two year Graphic Arts Technician course at Algonquin College, later completing courses through the City of Ottawa & Ottawa School of Art in drawing and sculpture. Susan's love of theatre had her working on a number of Orpehus musical productions at Centerpointe Theatre with lighting & sound. From 2010 to 2014, she has participated in several illustrating webinar courses with award winning illustrators/authors such as; Will Terry, from Utah and from artist Jake Parker (an animator for Ice Age, with Blue Sky Studios) through the SVS School of Visual Storytelling & Folio Academy. She has also studied watercolour used in illustrating for children's books with Mark G. Mitchell from Austin, Texas. Some of her work is found in private collections across Canada, the US and New Zealand.

Exhibits: Susan’s paintings are shown at a number of local Ottawa art venues: Nectar Gallery, The Ottawa Little Theatre, OAA Award Shows, Art in the Park shows, festivals, and local eateries & cafés. She has been commissioned for her work as well.
