Ottawa Art Association

Events

Immediate and upcoming events will normally be highlighted in the Association's monthly newsletter. See the current Newsletter.

OAA members are welcome to paint at the Ottawa School of Art on Fridays.  The OSA has a large room available, all day/evening, to OAA members to paint/draw.  This is year-round availability, except when there are special children's events during school breaks. This arrangement has been in effect for many years and has no end date. There is a rule: that there be no talking during painting time, except for lunch, when all can eat and chat.  So it is social and productive.  Easels are available, and proper disposal bins, good air circulation, as well as good lighting.  There are no models, although an individual artist could possibly hire one after discussing this with the group.  More info: Pat McEwan 613-231-2087

MONTHLY MEETINGS

Monthly meetings take place at 7:30 p.m. on the evening of the second Tuesday of each month in September, October, January, February, March, May and June.  The June meeting is the Annual General meeting.  These meetings include a short update on current events and then a presentation by a guest speaker.  There is a break for refreshments part way through.  Sometimes the meeting is a critique of members' art work.  All meetings take place in the Amphitheatre, 3rd Floor, 1480 Heron Road, Ottawa, east of Bank.

Twice a year we have Awards Shows.  November is the Fall Awards Show in which members vote for the best paintings in various categories.  At the Spring Awards Show, paid jurors external to the organization choose the winners. Each of the Awards Shows take place in our exhibit space, at the Ottawa Little Theatre, 400 King Edward Avenue just south of Rideau (doors open at 7:15pm).  Wine and delicious refreshments are served.

The hanging fee for participating members includes your ticket to the event.  Additional tickets may be purchased for guests.  If buying tickets at the door please try to have exact change.

PAINTING OUTINGS

We invite members to host painting get-togethers.  This involves only a location and a cup of tea or coffee for participants.  This is a great way to meet other artists, have fun painting together (or nearby), exploring new locations and supporting each other in our artistic pursuits.
